Catherine Clinch, 12, made her debut with An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl), shown at the Berlin International Film Festival 2022.
Written and directed by Colm Bairéad, this is the first Irish language film to feature at the festival, and is based on Irish writer Claire Keegan's short story, Foster. Starring opposite Kate Nic Chonaonaigh, Clinch plays the lead role of Cáit, a young girl from a dysfunctional family sent to live with her foster parents for the summer. The Quiet Girl is a coming-of-age drama exploring themes including family, neglect, and loss, and secured Clinch the lead actress award at the Irish Film and Television Award in 2022.
